Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (May 31, 2017) – Zane Lawrence tackled the 15th annual Memorial Day Classic last weekend, when the ASCS Gulf South Region hosted what was scheduled to be a tripleheader in Texas.

The action began on Friday at RPM Speedway in Crandall, where Lawrence started from the inside of the third row in a heat race. He finished sixth, which relegated him to the B Main.

“We didn’t have a good pill draw so that kind of set the tone for the rest of the night and having to come from the back,” he said.

Lawrence picked up a pair of positions to finish sixth, which earned the final transfer into the main event. He then charged from last – 20th – to an 11th-place result, which was tied for the most cars passed.

“We ended up breaking a throttle return spring so I was having to lift the throttle with my foot to get it to even slow down,” he said.

On Saturday, a high pill draw started Lawrence in the back of a heat race – ninth – at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. He maneuvered to earn a sixth-place result. That lined him up on the inside of the seventh row for the main event.

“Again, we didn’t have a good pill draw so we were having to play catch-up all night,” he said. “We ended up breaking a left front shock in the feature and we were just able to hold on until the end.”

Lawrence ended with a 12th-place result. He continues to rank second in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings.

Sunday’s finale at Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore, Texas, rained out.

Lawrence is scheduled to be back with ASCS Gulf South Region this Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, and Saturday at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas.
